New Tatkal Ticket Rules from IRCTC – Effective July 2025
Aadhaar authentication mandatory from July 1, 2025
IRCTC will only allow Aadhaar‑verified users to book Tatkal tickets online via the website or mobile app from July 1, 2025, across both AC and non‑AC classes.
Why it matters: This measure aims to combat fake profiles, automated bots, and mass bookings, ensuring seats reach the real traveller.
OTP via Aadhaar-linked mobile from July 15, 2025
From July 15, 2025, IRCTC introduces an additional layer of security: a One-Time Password (OTP) will be mandatory, sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile—required for:
- Online Tatkal bookings
- Tickets bought at PRS counters
- Bookings via authorised travel agents
Agents barred during first 30 minutes
To level the playing field, authorised agents will be blocked from booking during the initial 30 minutes of Tatkal windows:
- AC classes: 10:00–10:30 AM
- Non-AC classes: 11:00–11:30 AM .
This restricts bulk or bot-based bookings and prioritises individual travellers.
What This Means for You – The Real User
🎯 Fairer access
- No more automatic bots or multiple agent logins exploiting openings
- Real passengers get first dibs on Tatkal seats
More secure bookings
- Aadhaar + OTP means tickets are linked to genuine identities
- Reduces fraud and fake reservations
How to prepare
1. Link your Aadhaar with your IRCTC account before July 1
2. Ensure your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is valid and with you
3. Book swiftly from 10:00 AM (AC) or 11:00 AM (non‑AC)—when your minutes now count more.
Why It’s a Big Deal
- Aligns with the government’s goal of curbing ticket fraud and biometric misuse
- Promoted by the Ministry of Railways and CRIS to enhance transparency and accountability
- Responds to daily complaints about bots and hoarding, especially in AC ticket categories
Final Take
With the upcoming rules:
- Aadhaar authentication is essential from July 1, 2025

- Agents are locked out during the first 30 minutes of Tatkal windows
