Haryana Police have arrested a young lawyer from Nuh on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), marking the third such espionage related arrest in the Mewat region this year. The accused, identified as Mohammad Rizwan Khan, a resident of Kharkhadi village, was taken into custody following a joint intelligence input shared by a central investigative agency.
According to officials, Rizwan had been practising law in Gurugram, Nuh and Sohna courts. He was initially detained two days ago and subsequently arrested after a case was registered under Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 17 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at the Tauru Sadar police station. Authorities allege that Rizwan was involved in sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence handlers and receiving funds through hawala channels.
Officials stated that the arrest came after credible inputs indicated Rizwan’s possible links with Pakistani operatives. He was detained on Monday evening near Pipaka village in Tauru while returning home from Gurugram. Following questioning, he was formally arrested late Tuesday night.
Investigators revealed that Rizwan had travelled to Pakistan multiple times, reportedly to visit extended family members. However, agencies suspect that he may have come in contact with individuals at the Pakistan High Commission during the visa process, leading to his alleged recruitment or coercion by intelligence operatives. Authorities also say that financial transactions traced to his bank account appear to have originated from Pakistan based handlers.
During interrogation, Rizwan reportedly provided information that led police to detain one of his colleagues, Musharraf (alias Parvez), from Nuh for further questioning. Investigators believe that a larger network may be involved, prompting police to expand the probe. A team led by Tauru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abhimanyu Lohan has travelled to Punjab to pursue additional suspects linked to hawala operations and suspected terror financing.
Rizwan’s family members said they were unaware of the developments until police informed them on Wednesday morning. They claimed they had no knowledge of his alleged activities.
The arrest highlights growing concerns about espionage attempts in the region. With this being the third such case in a year, security agencies are intensifying surveillance and coordination to curb the flow of sensitive information and illegal funding mechanisms.
