Bikaner, Rajasthan: In a shocking incident aboard the Sabarmati Express, an Army jawan was stabbed to death following a dispute with a train attendant over a bedsheet. The incident occurred between Lunkaransar and Bikaner early Monday morning, leading to the arrest of the accused railway attendant by the Bikaner Railway Police.
The deceased has been identified as Jigar Kumar Chaudhary (Some reports claiming as Jignesh Kumar Chaudhary), a resident of Sabarmati, Gujarat, who was posted in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, he had boarded the train from Firozpur Cantt (Punjab) and was on his way home to Gujarat when the fatal altercation took place.
Dispute Over Bedsheet Turned Fatal
Preliminary investigation suggests that the Army jawan had asked the train attendant for a bedsheet during his journey in the AC coach. The request allegedly led to an argument between the two. The accused, identified as Zubair Memon, reportedly lost his temper during the exchange and attacked the soldier with a knife.
The stabbing occurred inside the moving Sabarmati Express. Jigar Chaudhary (Jignesh) sustained a deep injury to his leg, particularly in the calf region, which caused severe bleeding. Passengers raised an alarm, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately responded. The jawan was rushed to PBM Hospital in Bikaner, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Compartment Sealed, Forensic Team Deployed
Following the incident, the bloodstained AC coach was sealed by the Railway Police. Other passengers were shifted to a different compartment. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team has been dispatched to examine the crime scene once the train reaches Jodhpur.
RPF Station Officer Anand Kumar confirmed that several contract railway attendants were taken into custody for questioning. “The primary accused, Zubair Memon, has been arrested. Interrogation is ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events,” he said.
Body Sent for Post Mortem
The body of the Army jawan has been kept in the mortuary at PBM Hospital. A post mortem examination will be conducted after his family members arrive in Bikaner. Police sources said that the initial probe indicates the altercation was not premeditated but escalated rapidly, resulting in the tragic death.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are now examining whether there was any negligence or failure of safety protocols aboard the train. The Sabarmati Express, which runs between Jammu Tawi and Ahmedabad, continued its journey under RPF supervision after the compartment was sealed.
This tragic event has raised serious concerns about the safety of passengers and railway staff conduct on long distance trains.
The Army jawan’s death on the Sabarmati Express serves as a grim reminder of the need for stricter monitoring and better conflict management training for onboard railway personnel. A detailed investigation is underway, and police have assured that strict action will be taken once all evidence is reviewed.
