Delhi man Vikas livestreams suicide after accusing wife and Shakib

In a deeply disturbing and tragic incident, a man from Delhi named Vikas livestreamed his own suicide on social media after leveling serious accusations against his wife and a man identified as Shakib. The harrowing video, which has since gone viral and sparked public outrage, contains emotional appeals, allegations of betrayal, and a plea for the future of his young son.

The heartbreaking act has raised concerns over mental health, digital abuse, and the systemic gaps in addressing emotional crises in domestic relationships.

What Happened?

According to sources, Vikas went live on social media from his Delhi residence and recorded an emotional message before taking the extreme step. In the video, Vikas alleged that his wife had abandoned him due to his financial struggles and was involved in an extra marital affair with a man named Shakib.

“My wife left me due to my financial woes. I hold myself responsible for my debt. I love my wife and can’t live without her,” Vikas said, fighting tears as he recorded his last message.

The video, which reportedly lasted over ten minutes, has now become central to a growing investigation into possible abetment to suicide, cybercrime, and custody of the couple’s four year old child.

Accusations Against Shakib

In the same video, Vikas accused Shakib of being involved in several cybercrimes, alleging that the man manipulated his wife and contributed to the breakdown of his marriage.

Although specific cyber offenses were not detailed in the livestream, Vikas repeatedly referred to Shakib as a “digital predator” and “destroyer of families.” He demanded that police investigate Shakib’s alleged criminal activities, stating that he was not only a threat to his family but to society at large.

This man has ruined my life and he will ruin others. I am dying, but don’t let him escape,” Vikas appealed.

Final Wish: Custody of Son to Parents

Before ending the live video, Vikas made a final emotional plea requesting that custody of his four year old son be handed over to his parents, not his wife.

“My son deserves better. I want my parents to raise him in love and care,” he said, his voice breaking.

The statement has triggered debates on child custody laws in India, especially in circumstances where one parent is deceased, and the surviving parent is facing serious accusations.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Delhi Police were alerted after users watching the livestream attempted to trace and contact authorities in real time. However, by the time officials reached the location, Vikas was found unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A senior police official confirmed that a case under relevant IPC sections including abetment to suicide is being registered, and the video has been secured as primary evidence.

The cyber cell is also reportedly looking into the digital footprint of Shakib, especially in light of Vikas’s grave allegations. Vikas’s wife, whose identity remains undisclosed for legal reasons, may also be summoned for questioning.

Mental Health and Online Distress

This tragic incident underscores the mental health crisis brewing among youth and young families in urban India, especially in the face of economic stress and digital manipulation.

Mental health experts have urged the public and policymakers to treat suicide not just as a law and order issue but a mental health emergency.

“This is not just a marital dispute. It reflects a larger breakdown in communication, emotional support, and early intervention systems,” said a Delhi-based psychologist.

Social media platforms are also under scrutiny for their inability to prevent the livestreaming of suicides, despite repeated instances in the past. Critics argue that there needs to be stronger AI driven intervention tools that can flag such content and trigger immediate emergency responses.

Public Reaction and Social Media Outrage

The incident has sparked a wave of public anger and grief across social platforms. Many users are questioning the role of digital relationships, cybercrime, and emotional exploitation, while others have demanded justice for Vikas.

The hashtag #JusticeForVikas began trending within hours, with thousands calling for a full investigation into Shakib’s alleged activities and the circumstances that led Vikas to end his life.

Several prominent influencers and digital rights activists have also called for psychological counseling hotlines to be more accessible and for schools and workplaces to promote mental health awareness.

Legal and Custodial Implications

Legal experts state that Vikas’s recorded statement may influence the court’s decision regarding the custody of the minor child, though it may not be legally binding.

According to Advocate Niharika Sharma, a family law expert:

“Courts will consider the welfare of the child as the top priority. While Vikas’s video is a strong emotional appeal, the court will also assess the ability of both the maternal and paternal families to provide a nurturing environment.”

The Delhi Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is expected to intervene and may place the child in temporary care while legal proceedings unfold.

A Wake Up Call for Society

As investigations continue, Vikas’s death serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of mental health, the dark underbelly of online abuse, and the emotional trauma caused by betrayal and debt.

India’s rapidly evolving digital and social landscape must be accompanied by a robust support system for individuals in distress, especially men who are often hesitant to seek help due to stigma.
