Key Features of the FASTag Annual PassMassive Cost Savings for Daily CommutersHow to Buy the Annual PassWhy This MattersQuick FAQsFinal Thoughts

New Delhi, June 19, 2025 – In a major move to simplify toll payments and reduce travel costs, the Union Government has introduced a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000. Set to roll out from 15th August 2025, the pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made the announcement, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting digital tolling, cost efficiency, and seamless highway travel.

Key Features of the FASTag Annual Pass

💸 Price: ₹3,000 (one-time payment)

🗓 Validity: 1 year from date of activation or 200 trips, whichever comes first

🚗 Eligibility: Only for private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans); not valid for commercial vehicles

🛣 Coverage: Applicable at all NHAI-operated toll plazas across national highways and expressways

⚙️ System Type:

Open Toll System: 1 trip = 1 toll crossing

Closed System (e.g., expressways): 1 trip = complete journey (entry to exit)

Massive Cost Savings for Daily Commuters

According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the pass offers up to 70% savings when compared to standard FASTag toll rates.

“For frequent travelers, this pass could mean savings of ₹7,000–₹10,000 per year,” he said.

The average cost per trip under the pass comes to just ₹15, compared to ₹50–₹120 normally charged at toll booths.

How to Buy the Annual Pass

Starting August 15, 2025, users can activate the pass through:

  • Rajmarg Yatra App
  • Official websites of NHAI and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)

No additional FASTag is required the pass is linked to your existing FASTag.

Why This Matters

This initiative is part of the government’s larger vision of a barrier-free digital tolling system, using:

  • ANPR Cameras
  • GPS-based tracking
  • AI-integrated toll monitoring

The goal: Eliminate physical toll booths, reduce highway congestion, and ensure faster, smoother commutes.

Quick FAQs

Q1. Is this pass mandatory?

No. It is optional and ideal for frequent private vehicle users.

Q2. What happens after 200 trips or 1 year?

You must renew the pass by paying ₹3,000 again.

Only at NHAI-operated toll plazas. State/private toll plazas are not covered.
