Indian Railways to Run 380 Ganpati Special Trains, But Festive Crowd Remains Uncontrolled

Indian Railways Ganpati special trains have been announced to ensure smoother travel during the festive season, with 380 additional services planned across major routes. Every year, Ganesh Chaturthi attracts massive passenger movement, especially from Mumbai, Pune, and other urban centers to Konkan, Goa, and different parts of Maharashtra. To meet the festive rush, Indian Railways has introduced these Ganpati special trains, aiming to provide comfortable journeys for lakhs of devotees.

380 Ganpati Special Trains for Festive Rush

The announcement of 380 services is seen as a significant step by the Ministry of Railways to handle the spike in passenger demand. The Indian Railways Ganpati special trains will connect key cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik to Konkan belt towns such as Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Sawantwadi. With trains often running at full capacity during Ganesh Utsav, this move is expected to reduce the strain on regular services.

Officials have highlighted that the additional trains will include both reserved and unreserved coaches to ensure that passengers across different economic groups can travel conveniently. Many of these trains will run overnight to maximize capacity and provide flexible travel schedules.

Despite Extra Trains, Crowd Remains the Same

However, even with Indian Railways Ganpati special trains, the crowd situation at major stations has not changed much. Past Visuals from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Thane, and Panvel show long queues and heavily packed trains. Passengers can be seen struggling to find seats, with some trains so full that even standing space becomes scarce.

The festive enthusiasm ensures that lakhs of people travel at the same time, making it extremely challenging for the railways to accommodate everyone. Passenger groups have pointed out that while the Ganpati special trains are a welcome step, the number may still not be enough to match the rising demand year after year.

Ganesh Utsav and Railway Pressure

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of Maharashtra’s biggest festivals, and the Konkan region sees the highest passenger load during this period. Families prefer traveling together, often carrying idols and festive essentials, which further adds to the rush. Even with 380 Indian Railways Ganpati special trains, the festive exodus results in overcrowded platforms, congested ticket counters, and intense competition for seats.

FAQs on Indian Railways Ganpati Special Trains

Q1: How many Ganpati special trains has Indian Railways announced in 2025?

A1: Indian Railways has announced 380 Ganpati special trains for Ganesh Utsav travel this year.

Q2: Which routes will the Ganpati special trains cover?

A2: These trains will mainly cover Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik routes to Konkan belt destinations like Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Sawantwadi.

Q3: Are the Ganpati special trains enough to manage the festive rush?

A3: While 380 trains are a major step, visuals from stations show that crowds remain the same, with trains and platforms still overcrowded.

Conclusion

The initiative of running 380 Indian Railways Ganpati special trains is undoubtedly a positive step toward easing passenger movement during Ganesh Utsav. But given the scale of the festival and the volume of devotees heading home, the crowd at railway stations remains overwhelming. Many passengers continue to face difficulties boarding trains, with visuals of jam-packed compartments surfacing regularly. This raises a crucial question whether Indian Railways needs to expand capacity even further or explore additional travel solutions for future festive seasons.
