Kolkata Gangrape Horror: Law Student Brutally Assaulted Inside College; NCW Visits Campus TMCP Under Fire
Kolkata, June 29, 2025: A horrifying incident of gangrape inside a Kolkata college has sent shockwaves across the country, with the survivor being a young law student and the accused reportedly linked to the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) the student wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday visited the college premises, met senior police officers, and interacted with the survivor’s family to ensure the probe is free of political interference.
Incident Overview: Law Student Gangraped on Campus
The brutal crime occurred on June 24, 2025, within the hostel area of a reputed law college in Kolkata. The 21 year old female law student who had been pursuing her legal studies while staying in the college hostel was lured into a room by fellow students on the pretext of student union discussions.
Once inside, she was gangraped by at least four men, all of whom were allegedly active members of TMCP, the student front of the TMC.
She was later found unconscious and bleeding by a hostel worker the next morning. Police were immediately called, and she was admitted to NRS Medical College, where doctors confirmed signs of sexual assault and trauma.

The incident quickly took a political turn as it emerged that all the accused were associated with the college’s student union, operated under the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). One of the accused reportedly held a leadership position within the union.

The arrests have triggered massive public outrage, with opposition parties accusing the TMC government of nurturing a culture of impunity on campuses.
The TMC’s student wing has become a terror force. Colleges are no longer safe for daughters,” said BJP spokesperson Sukanta Majumdar.
NCW Visits Crime Scene & Hospital
Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, a high level team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) visited the college campus, met with Kolkata Police officials, and later met the survivor at NRS hospital.
We are shocked that such a crime took place inside an educational institution. The law student’s courage must be protected, and those responsible must be punished swiftly and without political protection,” said NCW Member.
The NCW has urged the West Bengal government to transfer the case to a fast track court and provide the survivor with legal, medical, and psychological support.
