Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Thursday (August 28, 2025) announced that all major political parties in the State have agreed to a common stand on the issue of 27% OBC reservation. The announcement followed an all party meeting convened at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bhopal to discuss the matter, which is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, the Samajwadi Party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Aam Aadmi Party. A unanimous resolution was passed to collectively pursue the demand for 27% OBC reservation by presenting a strong, united case before the apex court.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Yadav said, “Today, an all party meeting was held regarding the case pending in the Supreme Court concerning 27% OBC reservation, in which a resolution was passed unanimously that all parties will unite and come together on one forum in this matter.”
He further informed that lawyers representing different political sides would collaborate and finalize a uniform stand by September 10, ahead of the Supreme Court’s scheduled daily hearings starting September 22.
Congress Welcomes Consensus
The Opposition Congress, which had earlier locked horns with the ruling BJP over the issue, welcomed the development and claimed it as a victory for its persistent demand for social justice. Congress leaders stated that the decision would strengthen the case for 27% OBC reservation and ensure that the backward classes receive their due share in opportunities.

CM’s Discussion with Solicitor General
During his visit to New Delhi on 22 September 2025, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also met Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to discuss the matter in detail. “The State government is fully committed to taking necessary steps for 27% OBC reservation. I have held detailed discussions with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on this issue,” Dr. Yadav said.
A Step Toward Social Justice
The consensus marks a significant political development in Madhya Pradesh, where the issue of 27% OBC reservation has witnessed prolonged debates and legal battles. With all parties agreeing to speak in one voice before the Supreme Court, political observers believe this could pave the way for a more coordinated and effective representation of OBC interests.
The final decision now rests with the Supreme Court, which will begin continuous hearings from September 22, 2025.
