NCERT History Distortion? MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati Slams Misleading Maratha Empire Map in Class 8 Textbook
Rajasthan’s Shiv MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati has strongly criticized the NCERT history distortion found in the new July 2025 edition of the Class 8 Social Science textbook “Exploring Society: India and Beyond.” The controversy centers around a map illustrating the expansion of the Maratha Empire, which Ravindra Singh claims is factually incorrect and misleading.
According to Ravindra Singh Bhati, the map does not reflect historical reality and undermines the legacy and sacrifices of the princely states of Rajasthan. “This is not just a textbook error; it’s an attempt to distort Rajasthan’s glorious history, its sovereign pride, and the sacrifices of our ancestors,” he stated. He labeled this act as a serious blow to the cultural identity of the state and a violation of academic integrity.
Ravindra Singh Bhati emphasized that NCERT history distortion of this nature could have far-reaching consequences beyond Rajasthan. “This is not a regional issue alone— t affects the entire nation because it involves our shared cultural understanding and national unity,” he said. He called on the NCERT and the Union Ministry of Education to take immediate corrective action.
He further stressed the need for factually accurate history in textbooks, free from regional or political biases. “Misrepresenting the boundaries of the Maratha Empire not only disrespects historical truth but also undermines the credibility of our education system,” Ravindra Singh Bhati added.

The Shiv MLA acknowledged the greatness of Maratha history but argued that glorifying it by distorting maps harms the true spirit of Indian history. “Whether it’s Maratha, Rajasthani, or any other regional identity no distortion should be tolerated. Our textbooks must honor all regions with equal respect and factual correctness.”
Bhati’s statement has ignited fresh debate over NCERT history distortion and the accountability of educational institutions in preserving the truth. He urged the Education Ministry to present historical narratives fairly, upholding both regional pride and national integrity. As demands for corrections gain momentum, this issue could become a key point of public discourse around curriculum reform and the protection of India’s diverse heritage.
