Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu | July 21, 2025 – In a shocking case of betrayal and cold blooded murder, a wife kills husband by poisoning him with sambar in Keeraipatti village of Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri district. The motive? Her illicit affair with another man.

The deceased, 35 year old Rasool, worked as a private driver and lived with his wife Ammubi and their two children. Locals say the family appeared to be normal on the surface, but what was happening behind closed doors was deeply disturbing.

According to initial investigations, Ammubi had been involved in an extramarital affair with one Lokeswaran, a man who runs a saloon in the same village. Shockingly, he had been living in the house with Ammubi even while Rasool was away for work.

Police sources reveal that Rasool had objected to this relationship multiple times, but his wife remained defiant. Driven by the desire to eliminate her husband and live freely with her lover, Ammubi first attempted to poison Rasool a few days ago by mixing pesticide in pomegranate juice. However, Rasool found the taste unusual and refused to drink it.

Determined to go through with her sinister plan, the wife later mixed the same poison into sambar a traditional South Indian lentil curry during a meal. Rasool, unaware of the danger lurking in his food, consumed it. Moments later, he began vomiting and eventually lost consciousness.

Alarmed by his condition, the family rushed Rasool to a hospital in Salem. Doctors who treated him noticed signs of pesticide poisoning. Blood tests later confirmed the presence of toxic chemicals, raising suspicion among medical professionals.

When police were notified, they began interrogating Ammubi. During questioning, her statements were inconsistent and suspicious. Upon further pressure, she reportedly confessed to poisoning Rasool with the help of her lover, Lokeswaran.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community. Villagers described Rasool as a hardworking and gentle man who cared deeply for his children. The fact that a wife killed her husband in such a calculated manner has left everyone stunned.

“Rasool often confided in us about his marital problems,” said a neighbor. “But none of us imagined things would end like this.”

Law enforcement officials are now preparing a detailed charge sheet. Ammubi and Lokeswaran are expected to be booked under sections related to murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

This case adds to a growing number of incidents in India where a wife kills husband over extramarital affairs, property disputes, or domestic tensions. Experts point out the urgent need for stronger community counseling, early intervention, and awareness programs to prevent such tragedies.

The incident is also raising questions about the influence of toxic relationships, psychological manipulation, and unchecked infidelity leading to extreme outcomes.

Police Statement & Legal Action

Dharmapuri police confirmed that a formal investigation is underway and both suspects are in custody. “We are verifying all aspects of the murder from the sourcing of the pesticide to the timeline of the events. Forensic teams have collected food samples and other evidence from the house,” an officer said.

Ammubi is expected to face charges under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder), while Lokeswaran could face charges for aiding and abetting the crime.

Meanwhile, Rasool’s two children, now orphaned from their father and abandoned by their mother, are being looked after by relatives.
