New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament will be held from December 1 to December 19, 2025, the government announced today. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu has approved the government’s proposal to convene the session.

According to the official statement, the session will run for 15 working days, subject to the “exigencies of Parliamentary business.” The government has expressed hope that the upcoming session will be “constructive and meaningful,” focusing on legislative business and discussions that “strengthen democracy and serve the aspirations of the people.”

The Winter Session traditionally provides an opportunity to discuss key legislative and policy matters before the year end recess. However, this year’s session duration has drawn reactions from opposition leaders, who have described it as unusually short and delayed compared to previous years.

Congress leader and Member of Parliament Jairam Ramesh noted that the schedule leaves only 15 working days for parliamentary business. In a statement on social media, he said, “This is unusually delayed and truncated. It will be just 15 working days. What is the message being conveyed? Clearly the Government has no business to transact, no Bills to get passed, and no debates to be allowed.”

In recent years, the Winter Session has typically commenced in the third or fourth week of November and lasted for about 20 working days. The shortened timeline this year may limit the number of Bills and policy issues that can be discussed, though the final agenda is yet to be released by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

It has just been announced that the Winter Session of Parliament will be from Dec 1st till 19th.

Government sources have indicated that the focus of the session will likely include discussions on economic performance, legislative updates, and pending Bills carried over from the previous Monsoon Session. The session will also provide an opportunity for Members of Parliament to raise issues of public importance, including inflation, employment, and national security.

As the political atmosphere intensifies ahead of several key state elections, the Winter Session is expected to witness sharp exchanges between the government and the opposition, but both sides have expressed the need for meaningful debate within the limited timeframe.
