Young Electrical Engineer Ends Life in Chennai: A Tragic Case of Mental Torture

Chennai, India – A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Chennai, where a young electrical engineer from Rajasthan, identified as Sarit Chhipa, ended his life after alleged harassment and emotional torture within his marriage. The tragedy has raised critical questions about the mental health crisis, relationship pressures, and the lack of systemic support for men facing domestic abuse.

Background

According to reports, Sarit Chhipa, a 28 year old young electrical engineer originally from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, married Mala, a divorced woman he met on Facebook. Initially, the relationship seemed normal, but soon it turned into a nightmare. Mala allegedly began demanding money from him and subjected him to harassment.

Reports claim that she later sought a divorce, adding to Sarit’s mental agony. Despite being married for four years and having a two year old son, the situation escalated to the point where Sarit could no longer bear the pressure.

Suicide Note and Video Message

Before ending his life, the young electrical engineer recorded a video and wrote a poignant letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the note, he questioned the social structure that burdens youth with endless struggles. His words — “How will today’s youth progress when there are so many problems? People are dying, please save them. If divorce is the only option, why marry at all?” reflect his anguish and despair.

The video message also highlighted a broader issue: Sarit stated that “men’s lives have no value in this country,” emphasizing the silence around male suffering in abusive relationships.

A Call for Social Introspection

This tragic case of a young electrical engineer is not just an isolated story but a mirror to society’s growing challenges. Increasing financial pressure, broken relationships, and lack of institutional support are pushing many youth into depression and hopelessness.

The incident highlights a pressing need for stronger conversations around mental health, men’s rights, and family laws in India. While cases of harassment against women receive significant attention, men facing similar struggles often find themselves unheard and unsupported.

Conclusion

The death of this young electrical engineer Sarit Chhipa is a stark reminder that beyond statistics, there are real human lives being lost to neglect and social stigma. Unless urgent steps are taken to prioritize mental health and fair legal recourse for all, such tragedies will continue to haunt India’s youth.
