Winter Session of Parliament

BENGALURU, June 4, 2025 —

A jubilant celebration turned into a nightmare today as a stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory parade resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals, including a girl child of about six years and left over 30 others injured.

The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title win. As the crowd swelled, chaos ensued, leading to a deadly crush. Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Among the injured, several are reported to be in critical condition.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the tragedy, stating, “Crowd uncontrollable, we did not have time to make arrangements.” Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also expressed regret over the incident, highlighting the challenges in managing such large gatherings.

The RCB team had earlier been felicitated at the Vidhana Soudha and was en route to the stadium for further celebrations when the stampede occurred. In light of the tragedy, the planned open-top bus parade was canceled.

This incident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a historic and joyous occasion for RCB and its fans. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the stampede and are reviewing crowd control measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
