Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh – In a horrifying incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, a young man was allegedly beaten, doused in petrol, and burned alive by a group that included his wife and her lover. The case has sent shockwaves across the region, raising questions about personal relationships turning criminal and the urgent need for justice.
Victim Set Ablaze on the Road
The victim, identified as Sunny, was a resident of Kandera village. According to his father Vedpal, Sunny had married Ankita, a woman from Garhi Kangran village, just over a year ago. On July 22, Sunny left on his bike, traveling through the village of Daha on his way to Haridwar to collect Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges).
As he passed near Garhi Kangran, three to four individuals reportedly intercepted him. Sunny was allegedly dragged into the village, brutally beaten, and then doused with petrol and set on fire. The attackers did not just threaten his life they took it in the most brutal way possible.
Local villagers and passersby witnessed the burning man and raised an alarm. Sunny’s family rushed him to a hospital in Meerut, but due to the severity of his burns, he was later referred to Delhi for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Sunny succumbed to his injuries.
FIR Filed: Accused Include Wife, Lover & Relatives
Based on Vedpal’s complaint, an FIR was filed against Sunny’s wife Ankita, her alleged lover Dr. Ayub, her aunt Baby, and uncle Sushil. The FIR includes serious charges of murder, conspiracy, and assault.
Villagers and local activists gathered outside the police station in protest, demanding immediate arrests. The FIR filed was only the first step; the community insisted that timely and strong action must follow. With mounting pressure from both the family and local residents, police have said they are actively investigating the matter.
Community in Shock: “He Was Just Trying to Do a Good Deed”
Sunny’s family and villagers say the young man was spiritual and peace loving. He was reportedly on his way to bring back sacred water from Haridwar a sign of devotion and cultural tradition when he was ambushed.
“He was just trying to do a good deed,” his father Vedpal. “Instead, he was murdered in cold blood by people he trusted. We want justice.”
The FIR filed states that Sunny had confronted his wife earlier about her alleged extramarital affair with Dr. Ayub, which had led to tension in the marriage. However, no one in the family imagined it would escalate to a premeditated murder.
Delayed Arrests Spark Public Outrage
Despite the FIR filed more than 48 hours ago, none of the accused had been arrested at the time of reporting. This delay led to protests outside the local police station, with villagers shouting slogans and demanding swift justice.
The police have now assured the family that arrests will be made soon and that they are gathering evidence, including phone records, witness statements, and CCTV footage, if available.
Political Reaction and Law Enforcement Pressure
The incident has reached the ears of local political representatives, who have condemned the act and assured support to the victim’s family. There are calls for the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure transparency and speed in the investigation.
The FIR filed also mentions the possible role of others in helping the accused escape or hide, which may lead to further arrests in the coming days.
Legal Path Ahead
Legal experts believe that the charges filed under IPC sections related to murder (302), criminal conspiracy (120B), and wrongful confinement could lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty if proven in court.
The FIR filed marks only the beginning of a long legal battle, but the victim’s family and the public are demanding fast track court proceedings to avoid unnecessary delays.
