Source & Credits: Social Media Post on X by TrueStory

In a deeply disturbing and mysterious incident, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer and his sister were found dead inside their locked residence in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The tragic discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised multiple questions about the circumstances leading to their deaths. The incident, being treated as a suspected double suicide, is currently under active investigation.

Who Were the Victims?

The deceased have been identified as Avinash Kumar Singh (28), an officer working in the Electrical Department of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Delhi, and his younger sister Anjali Singh (25), who was employed with a private firm in Noida. According to initial reports, the siblings were found unresponsive inside a locked room of their family residence in Shalimar Garden, Ghaziabad.

Avinash and Anjali belonged to a well educated family. Their father, Sukhbir Singh, is currently posted with a government department in Goa, while their mother was reportedly out of the house when the incident occurred. It was only when she returned home on Tuesday evening and found the door bolted from inside that she suspected something was wrong.

Shocking Discovery Inside the House

Upon receiving no response after repeated calls and knocks, the mother alerted neighbors. With their help, the family forced the door open. What they found inside was heartbreaking both Avinash and Anjali were unconscious and frothing from the mouth, suggesting possible poisoning or chemical ingestion.

Emergency services were called immediately, but it was too late. Paramedics pronounced both siblings dead on arrival. Their bodies were sent for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Suicide Suspected, But Questions Remain

Authorities suspect that the two may have consumed sulphas (aluminium phosphide), a toxic pesticide commonly associated with suicides in India. However, no suicide note was found at the scene, leaving investigators with more questions than answers.

What the Police Are Saying

Speaking to the media, a senior Ghaziabad police officer said:

“We have not recovered any suicide note from the spot, but preliminary evidence suggests poisoning. The postmortem report will help determine whether it was suicide or something else. We are also examining digital devices, call records, and speaking to close relatives.”

The officer confirmed that no signs of forced entry or struggle were found, adding weight to the theory of a possible suicide pact. However, the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out.

Psychological Angle and Mental Health Concerns

Investigators are also exploring whether mental health issues or any form of emotional distress could have been factors. Friends and acquaintances of the siblings are being questioned to understand their recent behavior, emotional state, and any signs of depression or conflict.

It is still unclear whether the siblings were facing any financial, professional, or personal challenges that could have pushed them to take such an extreme step. No such indications have come forward as of now, but police believe that interviews with friends and forensic analysis of electronic devices may provide key insights.

Family Background

Family is known to be respectable and educated. Avinash, as a government employee in a prestigious intelligence agency, was considered to be doing well in life. Anjali, too, was reportedly satisfied in her corporate job. According to neighbors, there were no apparent signs of stress or family disputes in recent times.

Postmortem and Forensic Investigations Underway

Both bodies have been sent to the Ghaziabad District Hospital for autopsy, and the results are expected within 48 hours. In addition, forensic experts have collected samples from the house, including the leftover food and possible containers of poison, if any, to confirm whether sulphas was indeed used.

Police are also investigating phone call records, text messages, and online activity to identify any clue that may point to a motive.

Safety, Stress, and Suicide Among Young Indians

This case is not an isolated incident. In recent years, India has witnessed a rise in mental health issues and suicides among youth, especially professionals working in high-pressure environments like the Intelligence Bureau, IT, and private sector. While it remains speculative in this case, the lack of emotional support systems and social stigma around mental health continues to cost young lives.

What’s Next?

Authorities are treating this as a sensitive high-priority case given the involvement of an IB officer. Senior officials from both the IB and UP Police are likely to get involved if the investigation takes a complex turn.

Meanwhile, the final confirmation on whether it was suicide or homicide will come only after the postmortem and chemical examination reports are submitted.
