Ahmedabad, Gujarat: A shocking incident has surfaced from Junagadh, Gujarat, after a viral video showed senior students brutally assaulting a junior inside a private boys’ hostel linked to Alpha International School. The assault, which reportedly took place on July 26–27, 2025, stemmed from a dispute during a kabaddi game between Class 11 and Class 12 students.
The victim’s family came to know of the attack only after the video spread widely on social media in late August, nearly six weeks after the incident. The delay in disclosure has triggered widespread anger, with many questioning why neither the hostel nor the school authorities informed the parents earlier.
The District Education Officer (DEO) distanced the department from responsibility, stating, “This incident happened in a private hostel. Schools are responsible only for what happens on their premises. Hostels fall outside our jurisdiction.” Alpha International School also clarified that it does not directly manage hostel operations.
Following the outrage, police registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and launched an inquiry. The district administration has formed a multi-departmental investigation team including the Collector, DySP, Municipal officers, and the DEO. The hostel authorities have expelled one student and rusticated four others, while all accused have been removed.
The incident has sparked intense debate over bullying, hostel safety, and regulatory gaps in private student accommodations. Child rights activists and parents are now demanding stricter laws, monitoring mechanisms, and accountability to prevent such incidents in the future.
